The Port Elgin Islamic Centre (Jamia Imdadia) hosted the Ramadan Khatam-e-Quran and Dua event on 6th April 2024. The event’s main purpose was to bring the community together to participate in the completion of the recitation of the Quran for the month of Ramadhan 2024.

Additionally, Duas were recited in congregation for the well being of the Ummah and humanity as a whole. The event concluded with the recitation of the evening prayers followed by iftar; the act of breaking the fast.

Muslims fast during Ramadan as an act of worship and obedience to God (Allah). It’s one of the Five Pillars of Islam and holds significant spiritual, social, and personal importance. Fasting fosters self-discipline, empathy for the less fortunate, and purification of the soul. It’s a time for increased devotion, reflection, and gratitude, as believers abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset, focusing on prayer, Quranic recitation, and charitable acts. Ramadan serves as a means of drawing closer to Allah, seeking forgiveness, and strengthening community bonds through shared experiences of sacrifice and worship.
